Skin penetration businesses
A skin penetration business is any business where skin penetration procedures are being carried out by people who are not registered as health professionals. Registered health professionals include doctors, nurses, dentists, chiropractors, osteopaths, pharmacists and physiotherapists.
Skin penetration activities include:
- Waxing.
- Hair removal with tweezers.
- Electrolysis.
- Microdermabrasion.
- Nail treatments (cuticle cutting and acrylic nail application).
- Body, nose and ear piercing.
- Tattooing and cosmetic tattooing.
- Semi-permanent make-up.
- Colonic lavage.
- Any other procedure that involves penetrating or removal of the skin.
Note: There are some procedures that can only be performed by a registered medical practitioner or in a licensed private health facility including eyeball tattooing and cosmetic surgical procedures.
