Better Business Partnership

Our Better Business Partnership (BBP) is a Council-funded business sustainability program throughout Ku-ring-gai, North Sydney and Willoughby Council areas - looking for new, innovative and sustainable ideas to grow your business. 

The BBP team has recently launched an interactive Facebook group, Supporting Better Business to provide a helpful and informative network during these difficult times. It will deliver daily updates on government and other support available for businesses and connect you with others in challenging circumstances.

Government assistance

Service NSW

The Service NSW contact centre is a 24/7 service to support NSW response to COVID-19. The centre gives NSW businesses and residents access to a range of advice and support on non-health related COVID-19 enquiries. Call 13 77 88 or visit nsw.gov.au for more details  

Help for small business – disputes and payments

Businesses struggling with cash flow and payments such as rent or leases can contact the NSW Small Business Commission for advice. The Commission offers a confidential dispute resolution service and can also help small businesses with insurance and regulatory concerns. Find out more about asking for rent reductions and confidential dispute resolutionVisit the NSW Small Business Commission for more information.

COVID-19 and food businesses

The NSW Government has set out detailed guidelines for restaurants and food businesses operating during COVID-19.

These guidelines cover food handling, cleanliness and protecting staff and customers.

The NSW Government has relaxed some rules regarding the operation of mobile food trucks and food businesses that have a commercial kitchen and can offer takeaway services. Find out more about Operating a mobile food stall or van.

ATO small business webinars

The ATO offer free small business webinars on a variety of topics.

Business Connect - free advisors and online workshops 

Business Connect is now offering free online workshops, browse what’s available and register online. More than 25 webinars on cash flow, emergency planning, pivoting a business model and setting up ecommerce are already listed.  

All advice is free – the client contribution has been waived. The cap on hours is also waived, and businesses which have previously reached their cap limit can now get more support if needed.  

JobKeeper wage subsidy

The Federal Government has changed the Fair Work Act for employers and employees who have accessed the JobKeeper wage subsidy. This now overrides all awards, employment contracts and enterprise agreements.

Code of Conduct for commercial tenants

The mandatory Code Of Conducts introduced on 7 April good faith leasing principles for commercial tenancies during the COVD-19 pandemic. 

The objective is to share the financial risk and cashflow impact on lessees. Find out more.

Support for primary produce exporters

Primary producers of seafood, premium red meat, dairy and horticulture may be eligible for the federal government’s International Freight Assistance Mechanism. This aims to help exporters get goods into key overseas markets. More information
