Household problem waste 

Did you know that you can now drop off common household problem wastes for free at one of the nearby community recycling centres?

Accepted items for free disposal are:

  • Paints.
  • Gas bottles and fire extinguishers.
  • Household and car batteries. fluorescent globes and tubes.
  • Smoke detectors.
  • Motor oils and other oils.
  • Computers and their peripherals.
  • Televisions.

Please note: The community recycling centres are NOT able to accept all items that are accepted in the chemical collection.

Thornleigh Community Recycling Centre

Tuesday - Friday 8.30am - 4pm (closed Monday)

Saturday 8.30am to 12pm (closed Sunday)

Please note: The Thornleigh Community Recycling Centre now only accepts soft plastics, hard plastics and polystyrene from Hornsby Shire residents. Proof of residency (drivers licence or rates notices) is now required. Ku-ring-gai residents can take other materials to the Centre for recycling; for full details visit the Hornsby Council website.

Northern Sydney Community Recycling Centre

Monday, Tuesday and Friday 8am - 2pm (closed Wednesday and Thursday)

Saturday and Sunday 8am - 4pm

Soft plastics and polystyrene are not accepted at this recycling centre.
