Free clothes swap at St Ives Showground

Published on 06 September 2022

Ku-ring-gai Council is encouraging residents to recycle clothing through their latest initiative to reduce waste.

The clothes swap will be held at the Showground on Saturday 17 September between 2pm and 4pm.

The event will be hosted by The Clothing Exchange Team on behalf of the Council, with the objective of encouraging residents to swap high quality clothes they have grown out of for those they would love to wear.

Residents can bring up to six items of clean clothing in good condition that are no longer worn. When the clothing items are checked in residents each receive six buttons to use as currency during the swap. One clothing item can then be taken for each button received.

The clothes swap is free to attend but participants must pre-register.

Mayor Jeff Pettett said the clothes swap was a follow up to the unwanted clothing collection that was held in May at the Showground.

“The success of that event shows that our residents are actively looking at ways to get more use out of unwanted clothes and cut down what goes into landfill.”

“The clothes swap is a great way to get some new outfits and find a good home for those you no longer need.”
