Help for businesses to cut energy costs

Local businesses with power bills exceeding $32,000 a year are invited to a free webinar to get advice on how to cut their costs.

Ku-ring-gai and Northern Beaches Councils are co-hosting the webinar on Wednesday 22 March between 12.30pm and 1.30pm. It comes as a result of a recent survey conducted among local businesses about their energy use.

The survey found that 78% of respondents were concerned about their energy costs and actively seeking ways to reduce them.

The webinar on 22 March is for ‘large energy users’ spending $32,000 or more on annual energy bills or using the equivalent of 160 megawatts energy a year.

Large energy users include aged care providers, commercial building owners, retail premises, schools with large campuses, large strata unit buildings and hospitality venues.

The webinar will discuss the use of renewable energy power purchase agreements – or PPAs as they are also known - to manage electricity price volatility and improve greenhouse emissions.

Several speakers with direct experience in renewable energy PPAs will discuss how they work, with a Q&A session following their talks.

Mayor Jeff Pettett said power purchase agreements could lock in an electricity price for 5 to 10 years.

“A PPA has the potential to provide a business greater price and budget certainty. It’s also an effective way to reduce emissions and make people aware of your commitment.”
