Driveways
It is important all driveways and vehicle crossings over the gutter are safe and provide appropriate access.
Before you commence any work on a driveway crossing, footpath or any works on the road reserve, Council approval is required. Failure to do so may result in the work needing to be demolished and reconstructed at your cost.
Specifications ensures the design and construction of crossings is safe and what materials are permitted on Council’s land.

Note: Complying developments (CDC) also require a separate approval for the footpath and gutter crossing.
Applying for driveway access construction
A Council officer will inspect the location and provide driveway levels within 45 days (unless the site is complex and requires a specific plan). It is your responsibility to contact Before You Dig Australia to check for any utilities and services that may be affected by excavation or require relocation.

Inspection and approval
A formwork inspection must be arranged and confirmed with the Driveways Engineer prior to the pouring of the driveway crossing and footpath. This inspection is required to ensure your formwork matches the conditions and requirements specified in the driveway levels approval letter.
Only after an approved formwork inspection will you be able to proceed with the construction of the driveway crossing and/or footpath.
Inspections are carried out:
- Monday to Friday 9am - 1pm.

Costs
Under the Roads Act 1993, property owners are liable for all costs associated with the construction, maintenance and repair of a vehicular access between the road pavement and property boundary line.
Driveway crossings can only be constructed by Council staff or licensed contractors. After driveway levels approval have been issued, you may engage your own licensed contractor. Alternatively, email driveways@krg.nsw.gov.au to obtain a quote for Council to do the work.
