The Arrangement

The principles of art are an organised way that the elements of art are arranged in a work of art. The elements can be arranged in a work to produce balance, harmony, unity, rhythm, proportion, variety, emphasis, and movement. So the principles of art are dependent on the elements. No elements - no principles.

Although in a general sense any piece of music or writing, painting or sculpture, can be referred to as a composition, the term usually refers to ‘The Arrangement’ of elements within a work of art. An artist arranges the different elements of an artwork so as to bring them into a relationship satisfactory to them and, it is hope, the viewer.
