About Nature Play

Nature Play significantly improves all aspects of early childhood development - physical, cognitive, social and emotional. Playing outdoors in nature grows resilience, self-confidence, initiative and gross-motor skills.

Our regular Nature Play programs offer weekly activities specially created for children aged 0 to 5 or aged 4 to 6 and involves a fun morning of play-based investigation and discovery in nature led by our experienced Environmental Education Rangers. The program is structured with new nature themes each week designed to develop curious minds and playful spirits. Our weekly Nature Play runs on selected weekday mornings between 10am and 11.30am.

Council has launched a new booking system. The improved system is more user friendly, has better self service functions and is mobile friendly making it faster and easier to book events and classes online.

Nature Play Program FAQs

Where do we meet?

Follow the signs to your meeting point when you arrive at the Wildflower Garden. Our address is 420 Mona Vale Rd, St Ives (off Richmond Avenue).

What if it’s raining or really hot?

Nature Play will go ahead in most weather conditions (subject to our Weather Policy), so please come prepared to be outside for at least some of the activity. We sometimes use indoor venues to help keep everybody comfortable.

What should I bring on the day?

Please come ready for outdoor adventure, with hats, sunscreen and/or raincoat and gumboots as required. You are welcome to bring a snack as there will be an opportunity for morning tea during the program. For the benefit of others we encourage nut-free snacks.

Can I bring my baby?

Yes, you are most welcome to bring a younger sibling. Just make sure they are booked in, because COVID-19 restrictions mean we are obliged to adhere to a certain maximum group size.

Can I bring my spouse, grandma or other adult?

We have limited spaces and only one adult may attend with each child.

Are these activities safe to attend during the pandemic?

We are taking special measures to reduce the risk of COVID-19 at our activities. Our rangers are all trained in infection control, and we ask that all participants comply with our Special Conditions which include staying home when sick, hand hygiene, social distancing and contact tracing.
