Free clothing and linen collection
Next date: Sunday, 22 May 2022 | 10:00 AM
to 03:00 PM
Council is hosting a free clothing and linen collection event at St Ives Showground.
The event is in partnership with the St Vincent De Paul charity, the textile recovery business BlockTexx and the Northern Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils (NSROC). It is a NSW Environment Protection Authority Waste Less Recycle More initiative funded from the waste levy.
For each truckload of clothing and linen we collect on the day, 10 tonnes of textile waste will be kept out of landfill.
We can take your clothes and linen dropped off between 10am and 3pm on Sunday 22 May. This is a drive-through event so please stay in your vehicle while our team pick up your goods.
What can I bring?
- fitted sheets;
- flat sheets;
- doona/quilt covers;
- tea towels;
No cushions, doonas or pillows, carpets, underlays, curtains, belts or shoes, no underwear or bras or jewellery.
- Please ensure all clothes and linen are clean and dry.
- Pack your items in the boot so we can safely remove them.
- Don’t forget to separate your items into bags or boxes - clothing in one and textiles in the other.
St Vincent De Paul and the textile recovery business BlockTexx will be the beneficiaries of the collection, with clothing and linen in good condition being sold at the charity’s op shops. The remainder will be used by Blocktexx to recycle in packaging and building materials. St Vincent De Paul will also repurpose unwanted textiles as cleaning products.
