Ku-ring-gai Council is one of the six councils that border the Hawkesbury River system who have come together to develop an integrated, whole of estuary Coastal Management Program.
The goal is to set out the long-term strategy for the coordinated management of the coastal zone along the Hawkesbury Nepean River System which includes Brisbane Water, Pittwater and Broken Bay estuaries.
The NSW Coastal Management Manual recommends a five-stage process for the preparation and implementation of a Coastal Management Program.
Stage 1 of the Hawkesbury Nepean River system CMP was officially completed in April 2020 with the release of the Scoping Study that has reviewed the history of managing the river system, developed a shared understanding of the current situation and identified the strategic path of the remaining CMP stages.
Stage 2, finalised in March 2023 aimed to address knowledge gaps that were identified in the Stage 1 Scoping Study.
The project is now transitioning into Stage 3, which will collate the information produced as part of Stages 1 and 2 and guide the identification, evaluation and selection of appropriate actions to guide the management of the river system over the next 10 years.
As part of Stage 3 of the Hawkesbury-Nepean River System Coastal Management Program, we are seeking your input into what ways we can better shape how the river is managed for the future.
The engagement period will run from Monday 16 September to Sunday 24 November 2024.
Our online engagement portal can be accessed via the Hawkesbury-Nepean River System Coastal Management Program.
On the portal you can:
