Showground centenary

St Ives Showground 100 years
Happy 100th birthday to St Ives Showground!

This year we celebrate a century of community, connection and memories at St Ives Showground.

Established in 1926, the Showground began when the St Ives Agricultural and Horticultural Association was granted 53 hectares of Crown land to create the Northern Suburbs Showground—now known and loved as St Ives Showground. It officially opened on 15–16 January 1926 with the Northern Suburbs A&H Show, attracting a record 4,000 people and earning praise as “one of the finest showgrounds in the State.”

For many years, shows and horse events were held regularly, until the Second World War when the Showground was occupied by the Australian Defence Forces as a training camp.

Today, St Ives Showground remains a much-valued recreation and events destination, home to Ku-ring-gai’s largest inclusive playground, Treetops Adventure, as well as the farmers market, café, sporting events, festivals and countless community activities enjoyed by residents and visitors alike.

Council will be marking this special centenary with celebrations throughout the year. We invite you to be part of the story by sharing your photos and memories of the Showground.
