Nature play space
New nature play space planned for Ku-ring-gai Wildflower Garden
The Wildflower Garden, a 123-hectare bushland sanctuary on the edge of Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, will receive a major upgrade with the addition of an inclusive and nature-based play space.
The project, supported through the Metropolitan Greenspace Program & NSW Department of Enterprise Investment & Trade, will provide improved access to quality green space while strengthening the Garden’s role as a regional destination for nature-based recreation.
Key features of the proposed concept plan include:
- Inclusive design - a play space accessible to all ages, abilities and cultures, guided by universal design principles.
- Nature-focused play - integration of natural and recycled materials such as sandstone, timber, and loose play elements to create engaging experiences.
- Enhanced play opportunities - activities including climbing, balancing, tunnels, mounds, imaginative and social play.
- Improved site functionality - an inviting layout that enhances visitors experience.
The Ku-ring-gai Wildflower Garden attracts visitors from across Sydney and its connection to Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park strengthens biodiversity links. The new play space will highlight local flora and fauna, including the Coastal Upland Swamp Community.
By promoting interaction with the natural environment, the playground will provide recreational and educational opportunities and support a healthier and connected community.
