Cr Martin Smith

Cr Martin Smith and his wife have lived in Ku-ring-gai for over 25 years. They have three children who currently attend local schools.

Cr Smith was first elected to Council in 2017.

Cr Smith served for 10 years as a fire fighter in the NSW Fire Brigade. He has an excellent understanding of the bushfire risk in Ku-ring-gai and the implications of this for residents and Council.

For the past 20 years Cr Smith has run his own successful business, which provides electronic and physical security nationally for large corporations. Running a company of this size has enabled Martin to become a strong leader, with excellent planning and communication skills and a comprehensive understanding of finances.

Cr Smith’s special interests are in the areas of heritage protection and preserving the integrity of Ku-ring-gai’s village atmosphere. Through his work as president of his local resident group, Martin has gained an excellent understanding of both state planning legislation and local council planning processes. He strongly believes that development must be sympathetic with the area.

One of his priorities is to improve sporting, cultural and community facilities in order to serve residents of all ages and all abilities, and so enhance the quality of life and well-being for the residents of Ku-ring-gai.  

In this Council term Cr Smith was appointed to:

  • Ku-ring-gai Traffic Committee - Alternate
  • Northern Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils (NSROC) - Alternate
  • Hornsby/Ku-ring-gai PCYC Advisory Committee - Alternate
