2023 Community Grants

Each year we offer community groups the chance to get their projects off the ground, purchase much-needed equipment or fund arts and cultural activities, through the Ku-ring-gai Community Grants Program.

Ku-ring-gai Community Grants 2023 applications are now closed.

The Community Grants are offered annually in three categories, see below for details.

Ku-ring-gai Community Grants 2024 applications will open late April 2024 and will be available on our online application system, Smarty Grants.

Please note all previous 2023 Community Grants recipients must have submitted their acquittal form(PDF, 131KB) and any associated paperwork by 31 May 2024.

A program of weekly meetings and competition among current players and those interested in learning the Game of Go, to initiate multi-ethnic gatherings through the non-verbal and intellectual game of Go.

Enhanced rehearsals: playing with professional musicians

Provision of enhanced rehearsals and additional learning and development opportunities through having professional musicians attend and play in with the youth orchestra.

Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Parkinson's Association Incorporated  $1,175

Choir- Digital conversion of sheet music

Provision of a software programme that will allow digital conversion of sheet music for the choir and produce audio files for playback via a keyboard/controller.

Streetwork Australia Limited  $3,900

Urban Art

Funding for a program developing contemporary art skills in young people in a safe and legal environment. The program focuses on young people affected by youth crime, mental health concerns, educational disengagement, homelessness, alcohol/substances misuse or those with poor employment opportunities.

CASS Care Ltd  $3,900

Bright up for Cultural Harmony Ku-ring-gai

A project to encourage residents from different cultural backgrounds to participate in a series of cultural programs through weekly meetings, and culminating in a multicultural performance celebrating cultural diversity in Ku-ring-gai.

Chabad House Of The North Shore Limited

Chanukah on the Green - Jewish Festival 2023

Funding to contribute to the Chanukah on the Green festival. The festival provides an opportunity for all residents to experience Jewish culture and traditions.

The event includes musical performances from Sydney artists and local schools, stage shows and entertainment, amusement rides and shows for children, food stalls and community stalls where groups can promote their services.

Hornsby Ku-Ring-Gai Community College  $3,900

Arts and Culture in Ku-ring-gai's Residential Aged Care Facilities

Provision of 30 hours of cultural and art classes to local residential aged care facilities, providing some of our most vulnerable community members with the opportunity for social inclusion, access and participation.

The Cavalcade of History and Fashion

Publication of Cavalcade Presentation Booklets

Development and presentation of both hard and soft copies of two collections of original, donated, historic clothing and accessories worn or associated with women, men and children in Australia dating from 1788 to the present day.

Multicultural Integration Community Support Inc

Autochthonous sounds in a foreign land

A project highlighting important aspects in migrant and Indigenous communities: how through their music they can retain the connection to their homelands but also connect to people in their adoptive country.

Cerebral Palsy Alliance  $3,900

Touch and Movement - music program for people living with disability

A music program for adults with physical disability, allowing them to enjoy the mental health benefits of musical expression, composition and performance in a safe, social and accessible environment.

Monthly 2-3 hour 'Stay Well-Live Well' exercise program that is a combination of Bollyfit exercise and 'chair' Yoga designed to provide a fun and social exercise option for seniors of all cultural backgrounds.

Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Parkinson's Association Incorporated $2,099

Raising Awareness of Parkinson's Disease

A project to increase awareness of the Association with both Doctors and Chemists; and to increase awareness and support for people suffering from Parkinson's disease.

Empowering Parents In Crisis (EPIC) $3,700

EPIC Training

The EPIC Training project will provide parents and carers of young people with the knowledge, skills and confidence to support their young people. The program will teach skills to identify and assist adolescents who are developing mental health problems, and gain strategies for physical, emotional and cognitive resilience.

Autism Spectrum Australia (Aspect)

School incursion program for students on the autism spectrum at Aspect Vern Barnett School satellite classrooms in St Ives

To facilitate a school incursion program for students on the autism spectrum at Aspect Vern Barnett School satellite classrooms. The program will comprise of a suite of three immersive learning experiences, provided in a safe and supported learning environment that is tailored to their complex needs.

Come-and-Try Netball Clinics for Migrant Communities

Clinics aiming to create a welcoming space where children from non-English speaking backgrounds can learn the basics of netball with a focus on teamwork and fostering friendships.

Funding towards the replacement of existing timing gates to be used by Little Athletics members and local schools.

To deliver ready to drive workshops for Ku-ring-gai youth. The program aims to improve young people's understanding of road safety issues and assist them in developing strategies to reduce distractions.
