Cr Sam Ngai grew up in Roseville and attended Roseville Public School. His wife Kathryn also grew up in Roseville and they now live in East Lindfield with two young daughters.
Cr Ngai’s qualifications include a Bachelor of Software Engineering (Honours), Master of Professional Accounting, and an Advanced Diploma of Theological Studies. He is a qualified accountant (CPA) and a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (Order of Merit). He currently works in the risk, policy and governance team of an ASX Top 40 company, and he brings his insights on governance and transparency to the Council.
Cr Ngai was elected to council in 2017. As a Councillor, he currently serves as a member of Ku-ring-gai’s Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee and as an LGNSW appointed board member of StateCover Mutual, a specialised workers health and safety insurer for the local government sector. He previously served as a member of the Sydney North Planning Panel, as vice-president of the Northern Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils (NSROC), and as a member of Ku-ring-gai’s Flood Risk Committee.
In the community, Cr Ngai serves in both youth and adults’ ministry at St Barnabas Anglican Church in Roseville East, as the secretary at KYDS Youth Development Service in Lindfield, and as the treasurer at East Lindfield Community Preschool. Prior to his time on council he also served as a deacon at a church in East Lindfield and led several Scripture Union mission teams in country NSW.
Cr Ngai has a passion for enabling young people to achieve independence. Through the Gawura School Reading Program he assisted indigenous students in learning how to read and through the Beacon Foundation he assisted disadvantaged high school students in learning how to get a job. Cr Ngai is also keen to promote greater awareness and support for issues such as domestic violence, mental health, loneliness, and our impact on the environment.
