Cr Sam Ngai

Cr Ngai was elected to council in 2017 and in September 2023 was elected to serve as Mayor. Cr Ngai has also previously served as Deputy Mayor.

Cr Sam Ngai grew up in Roseville and attended Roseville Public School. His wife Kathryn also grew up in Roseville and they now live in East Lindfield with three young daughters.

Cr Ngai holds degrees in Software Engineering and Accounting and he is soon to complete a Master of Laws (Environmental Law and Sustainable Development) and Master of Business Administration. He is a Fellow of CPA Australia and a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (Order of Merit). He previously worked in the risk, policy and governance team of an ASX Top 40 company and he brings his insights on governance and transparency to the Council. He is also an LGNSW appointed board member of StateCover Mutual, a specialised workers health and safety insurer for the local government sector.

As a Councillor, he currently serves as the Chair of the Flood Risk Management Committee and as a member of Northern Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils (NSROC). He has previously served as a member of the Sydney North Planning Panel, as vice-president of NSROC and as a member of Ku-ring-gai’s Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee.

In the community, Cr Ngai currently serves in the youth ministry at St Barnabas Anglican Church in Roseville East. He previously served as the secretary at KYDS Youth Development Service in Lindfield and as the president at East Lindfield Community Preschool. Prior to his time on council he also served as a deacon at a church in East Lindfield and led several Scripture Union mission teams in country NSW.
