Ku-ring-gai Council is offering the grants for community-based projects tackling conservation and helping to reach zero emissions.

This year the grants have a Net Zero category, with additional funds for projects which help the community address energy use, waste reduction and efficient transport.

Grants of up to $5,000 for conservation projects and up to $30,000 for innovative Net Zero projects can be awarded and applications open on 3 April.
The grants are funded by Ku-ring-gai’s environmental levy.

Previously successful applications have included $5,000 for a citizen science water monitoring program, $3,000 for a local Bushcare group to remove noxious plants in an endangered forest and $5,000 for an innovative school program to recycle plastics
into pens.

Projects may be ongoing or new initiatives that require funding to get off the ground. Community groups, schools, universities, not-for-profits and individuals are encouraged to apply for the grants which are open until 19 May.

Mayor Jeff Pettett said the environmental grants would be awarded by July this year and must be spent by June 2024.

“We’ve had some great projects funded in past years and the cumulative effect on
Ku-ring-gai’s community and the natural environment is very positive.”

“These grants are a key part of empowering residents to take action on issues affecting our environment”.
