It maintains accountability and transparency while ensuring that Councillor support aligns with community expectations.

Key principles

  • All expenses and facilities must directly support Councillors in performing their civic responsibilities.
  • No private or political benefit may be obtained from expenses or facilities provided under this policy.
  • All expenditure must demonstrate value for money and accountability to ratepayers.

  • Local Government Act 1993.
  • Local Government (General) Regulation 2005.
  • Office of Local Government Guidelines for the payment of expenses and provision of facilities to Mayors and Councillors in NSW.

Policy requirements

Council is required to adopt a Councillor Expenses and Facilities policy within the first 12 months of each Council term. The policy may be reviewed and updated as circumstances require.
