Council is seeking community feedback on its Draft Recreation Needs Study. The study has been completed to help Council plan the facilities and services that are needed to support community recreation. The study along with data from other community research will help us develop the Open Space and Recreation Strategy that will be implemented over the coming years.
About the study
The Recreation Needs Study, known as a ‘baseline study’, has involved an analysis of what the community is currently doing for recreation. In a context of limited resources, and constantly changing levels of community expectation and need, it is important that Council gets a clear picture of the current situation. The study has collected large amounts of data in the form of observations, surveys, research, and interviews that has been used to inform long term planning for services and facilities to support community recreation.
The Study has reviewed current trends in recreation participation at a National, State and Local level and articulate the benefits of recreation. A major part of this work has been consulting the community - both the public, and sporting and similar groups to understand needs and expectations. The study outlines the future forecast of the Ku-ring-gai community demographics, identifying key challenges and opportunities that need to be planned for. It has also included an audit of the current facilities owned by both Council and private providers to identify gaps or oversupply as well as opportunities for more effective use.
