Night-time Economy Action Plan
Ku-ring-gai Council has developed a Night-time Economy Action Plan.
The Plan has been developed in the context of the NSW Government's Vibrancy Reforms and 24-Hour Economy Strategy. It represents the first stage in the process of supporting and developing a successful night-time economy in Ku-ring-gai. It sets strategic directions and specific actions to enhance community vibrancy, support local businesses, and create meaningful evening experiences for residents and visitors. while maintaining the area's unique character and amenity.

What’s next
Following approval of the Plan at the 19 August meeting, Council will now work to implement actions in the plan. The short term plan to be implemented over the next 12 months includes:
- Promoting and enhancing activity - creating a Ku-ring-gai night-time brand with social media presence to showcase evening activities. Piloting weekend evening events in commercial centres. Highlighting local business success stories.
- Legislation and compliance - establishing a working group to investigate fees and regulations for evening businesses, including outdoor dining rules and examining development assessment for night-time operations.
- Community engagement - forming a Night-time Economy Task Force with Council, Chamber of Commerce and businesses. Testing community interest through events and engaging Council Advisory Committees for diverse input.
- Safety and amenity - look at opportunities for improving lighting including fairy lights. Conducting infrastructure audits and working with Police to enhance safety and community perceptions.
- Business support - targeting night-time businesses in council programs. Providing marketing support and identifying barriers through Chamber partnerships.
- Collaboration - coordinating council departments through internal working groups. Strengthening Chamber partnerships and exploring community and school collaborations.
