Other dog nuisance behaviours
Certain dog behaviours are regulated by law to help protect the safety and wellbeing of our community. These include:
- Dogs escaping
- Dogs defecating
- Dogs running at or chasing people or animals
- Dogs being a danger to people or animals
- Dogs causing damage
If these behaviours are occurring regularly and the dog owner is not taking steps to address them, you can report the issue to Council.
Reporting to Council
To assist Council in investigating the matter, please provide as much evidence as possible. This may include:
- Witness statements
- Photographs
- Video footage
If Council determines that the behaviour is ongoing, a Nuisance Order may be issued. This legally requires the dog owner to take action to prevent the behaviour from continuing.
Failure to comply with a Nuisance Order may result in fines being issued to the owner.
