Bushcare

Find your local Bushcare / Parkcare / Streetcare group

Council partners with local residents to preserve and maintain our unique bushland areas through our Bushcare, Streetcare and Parkcare and propagation programs. As a volunteer, you are provided with training and supervision as well as tools, hats, gloves, plants and other equipment. No experience needed and we welcome ages 11 years+.

Bushcare

Bushcare is a community volunteer program where residents work with Council to conserve and rehabilitate publicly-owned bushland reserves. One of the key activities we undertake is increasing biodiversity through weed removal. Weeds outcompete our native plants and cause environmental degradation. We also plant native species as well, but only when there is no chance of natural regeneration occurring.

Groups meet for 2-3 hours on a regular weekly, fortnightly or monthly schedule.

Why volunteer?

  • Connect with nature and put a smile on your face!
  • Meet other like-minded volunteers
  • Learn new skills such as flora and fauna identification and weeding techniques
  • Expand your knowledge of conservation and land management
  • Satisfaction of doing something positive and worthwhile
  • Keep fit through enjoyable, physical activity.

What’s in it for the environment?

  • Restore local bushland
  • Increase biodiversity
  • Conserve and protect threatened species
  • Create habitat and green corridors for our flora and fauna
  • Improve our landscapes for everyone

Duke of Edinburgh Award

We encourage local high school students wanting to participate to get in touch with our team. They will work with their peers on specific sites alongside our experienced bushland staff. Our staff have WWCC and will supervise and write their assessment reports.

Streetcare & Parkcare

Streetcare is a community volunteer program where residents work with Council to conserve and rehabilitate pockets of native bushland on verges and unmade roads. We encourage residents to improve the look of their street and/or increase the biodiversity of an area.

Some Streetcare groups meet monthly at set times, others agree to have a working bee 4 times a year. Council supports these groups with tools, plants and a qualified Bush Regenerator to guide the works. No experience is needed.
