ReSmart Pickups

The ReSmart collection service is a 2-year trial of hard to recycle items collected from homes. The trial commenced in September 2023 and although is still continuing at this point, is now in the evaluation phase. The trial is limited to 500 collections per month which has seen long waiting times for collections. Council is currently reviewing the way the program works, the recycling of the materials, the availability of industry funded programs and the overall costs to the community.

If you can’t wait for the collection time frames, check out the free drop off locations for many items on our A to Z waste guide.

Subscribe to ReSmart's Pickup service to have your hard to recycle items picked up from your doorstep and recycled under Councils plan. Items include soft plastics, e-waste, clothes, batteries, light bulbs and more. You can also drop off, for free, many items at various locations across the LGA. Check out the Hard to recycle map Ku-ring-gai for locations near you.

Please note this service is for Ku-ring-gai residents only.

How to book your free ReSmart Pickup

1. Book online

  • Download the ReSmart App or visit ReSmart
  • Select On-demand Pickup and choose the Regular size.
  • Pick a date that shows “Council-subsidised Pickup” to get your FREE collection.
  • If that date doesn’t suit you, you can book another available time for $19 (up to 60L / 2 bags).
  • You’ll be asked to add your credit card details when booking, but don’t worry, you’ll only ever be charged if you don’t cancel or reschedule your Pickup before 4pm the day before.
    • This small step helps keep the service fair for everyone. When a booked Pickup isn’t used, it means another resident misses out on a free collection, and a driver makes a trip for nothing.
  • ReSmart will send plenty of reminders so you don’t miss it.

2. Pack your items

  • Use any two shopping bags (around 40×30×20cm each) or a box up to 60L.
  • Fill them with dry, reasonably clean items such as soft plastics, e-waste, textiles, blister packs, and more. See list of accepted items
  • If it doesn’t go in your regular bins, and it’s dry, pop it in!

3. Place your bags out

  • Put them outside your house or near your building’s letterboxes before 8am on your Pickup day.
  • If your bags are reusable, your driver will leave them back.

4. Want more Pickups?

Once your current Pickup is completed, you can easily book another one using the same simple process. You’ll be able to schedule it at least 4 weeks after your last completed Pickup, subject to availability.
