Grey-headed flying-foxes play an important role in the survival and regeneration of our native forests and the Ku-ring-gai Flying-fox Reserve is recognised as nationally significant for the survival of this threatened species. However, living next to the bush can present its challenges.
Flying-foxes are gregarious creatures which can be loud and messy as they go about their business as critical pollinators of Australia’s forests. Ku-ring-gai Council aims to manage the reserve in a way that balances the conservation needs of this unique species while minimising the impacts on residents living close by.

The Council’s current Plan of Management for flying foxes was developed in 2013 and is due for an update. Council have commissioned Ecosure to complete the review. The management plan will be developed in accordance with State and Federal legislation, the Ku-ring-gai Flying-fox Reserve Conservation Agreement and adhere to the NSW State Government 2019 Camp Management Guidelines.
During this first stage, we are reaching out to the local community and asking residents to complete a quick online survey by clicking the link below.
Following the survey, Council will be hosting community workshops in March with state government representatives, ecological consultants and Council staff where you are invited to contribute further.
