Gordon Cultural and Civic Hub

Although the Gordon Hub project is currently deferred, there are several other projects that are ongoing in the area to assist in revitalising the centre.

  • In August 2019, we consulted Gordon residents and business owners about the idea of converting St Johns Avenue and surrounding streets into a pedestrianised area with outdoor dining – an ‘eat street’ as it’s more commonly known. A 'pop-up' event was held on 23 and 24 August which involved removing parking from one side of the street and creating a temporary 'parklet'. The idea has been well received, with several hundred people completing surveys.
  • Council has also introduced a more intensive regime of street cleaning and installing new bins to generate more civic pride in Gordon. This is working well to reduce litter and increase cleanliness in high-traffic areas.
  • In August and September 2019, we exhibited its draft report into Creative Facilities in Ku-ring-gai part of which considers cultural facilities suitable for Gordon. The report is the result of consultation with the creative industries, residents and others with an interest in the arts. Public feedback on the Creative Facilities Report will be used to guide the design of the future Gordon Cultural & Civic Hub, once work recommences on the project.
  • Council completed an upgrade in late 2018 of Annie Forsyth Wyatt Garden located adjacent to the Gordon Bus Interchange on Henry Street.
  • Gordon Recreation Ground Landscape Masterplan was completed in 2018 and identifies priorities for improvement works to the park over the next 10 years.
