Health warning on poisonous mushrooms
NSW Health has warned that death cap mushrooms have been recently found growing in Sydney. The poisonous mushrooms can be deadly if eaten by humans or pets.
NSW Health continues to warn the public not to eat wild mushrooms as it is extremely difficult to identify whether they are safe. Parents are advised to watch young children when playing outside, especially in areas where mushrooms may grow.
Symptoms of mushroom poisoning may include vomiting, diarrhoea and abdominal pain.If you are worried that mushroom poisoning may have occurred, do not wait for symptoms to appear. Call the Poisons Information Centre immediately on 13 11 26.
In an emergency call Triple Zero (000) or go to an Emergency Department. If possible, take a sample of the mushroom or a photo to help with identification.
