Clean-up collections

Available services

To keep our streets clean and tidy our clean-up services are by appointment only. To find out the next collection date in your area you will need to make a booking. There are two collection types available:

  • General clean-up which includes the recycling of metals, mattresses and e-waste.
  • Bulk green waste collection.

Each service is capped at 4 bookings per property per year. The yearly service entitlement commences from the 1st of January each year.

Due to unprecedented demand for this service, wait times for collection are to be expected.

General clean-up collection

The general clean-up collection will also include the recycling of mattresses, metals/whitegoods and e-waste. This service is capped at 4 bookings per residential property per year commencing 1 January.

To use this service please make an online booking or call Council's customer service on 9424 0000.

Items accepted for recycling in the general clean-up

When making your online booking please indicate using the check list if you have these items for recycling:

  • E-waste - TVs, computers, laptops, notebooks, tablets, printers, computer peripherals such as keyboard, mouse, screens, internal parts such as circuit boards/motherboards power supplies and cables.
  • Mattresses - king, queen, double, king single, single and cot.
  • Metal items - whitegoods, fridges, freezers, ovens, washing machines etc, air conditioners, hot water systems, bbqs, bikes, exercise bikes, treadmills, lawn mowers, filing cabinets, metal shelving * metal swing sets, metal trampolines, clothes lines, metal bed frames. Please note * these oversize items must be dismantled and cut in pieces which are no longer than 2m in length.
  • Beds and bed bases.
  • Toys and non-metal play equipment.
  • Furniture.
  • Tools.
  • Carpet in manageable sized rolls.
  • Electrical equipment eg. stereos, microwaves, and small appliances.
  • Pool equipment / heating strips must bundled in manageable amounts.

Items NOT accepted in general clean-up

  • Building or renovation waste, eg. demolished structures, fencing, guttering, bricks, wood, tiles, concrete.
  • Demolition waste including all waste from kitchen and bathroom renovations.
  • Vegetation - book a bulk green waste collection please check service conditions.
  • Hazardous waste, eg. paints, chemicals, pesticides, gas bottles.
  • Oil heaters/column heaters - must be disposed of at chemical collections.
  • Excessively heavy items eg. commercial photocopiers, treadmills, concrete pots.
  • Car parts and tyres.
  • Liquid waste.
  • Glass/ mirrors.
  • Food waste or house-hold recyclable items that are accepted in the blue or yellow lidded bins.
  • Solar panels and solar systems including batteries and inverters. Please source a specialised recycler. For the most up to date services available please check online.

Service conditions

  1. This collection is provided for large/bulky items. Please dispose of small items in the waste bin.
  2. Present items kerb-side only on the night before your collection date. This reduces the likelihood of others adding to your pile making it oversize.
  3. Service cancellations are accepted up to 4pm the day before collection (Tuesday - Friday) and 4pm on Fridays for Monday collections.
  4. Make sure you don’t block pedestrian access.
  5. The total volume of waste must not exceed three cubic metres (3mx1mx1m).
  6. No item is to exceed two metres in length.
  7. Loose items must be consolidated or bagged for collection.
  8. Each individual house or unit must make a separate booking. Adding your waste to someone else's booking is considered illegal dumping.
  9. We have the right to refuse collection of any item that has the potential to harm the operator, equipment or the environment.

Bulk green waste collection

The bulk green waste collection is for prunings and branches. This service is capped at 4 bookings per residential property per year. To use this service please make an online booking or call Council's customer service on 9424 0000.

Please be advised the collection may take 2-3 days from the date on your booking confirmation.

Service conditions

  • Present green waste kerb-side only on the night before your collection date. This reduces the likelihood of others adding to your pile making it oversize.
  • Service cancellations are accepted up to 4pm the day before collection (Tuesday - Friday) and 4pm on Fridays for Monday collections.
  • Make sure you don’t block pedestrian access.
  • The total volume of waste must not exceed three cubic metres (3mx1mx1m).
  • Green waste is not to exceed 1.2m or 1200mm in length.
  • Green waste is not to exceed 15cm or 150mm in diameter.
  • Minimum size is 60cm or 600mm in length.
  • Each individual house and unit must make a separate booking. Adding your waste to someone else's booking is considered illegal dumping.
  • Please be advised that Council is unable to remove residual leaves and twigs following the collection.
  • We have the right to refuse collection of any item that has the potential to harm the operator, equipment or the environment.

Items NOT accepted in the bulk green waste collection

  • Grass, sticks, twigs, leaf litter and material with thorns.
  • Tree stumps.
  • Building timber.
  • Bagged green waste.
  • Vegetation that has the potential to cause skin irritation or physical harm.

Reminder: You must obtain permission from Council to prune or remove trees more than five metres tall or four metres wide.

All tree works on properties located within a Heritage Conservation Area or on Heritage Item properties require Council permission.

Selling or sharing your unwanted items

If you have clothes, toys, tools or any other unwanted items which are still in good condition and working order, you could consider selling or sharing them or giving them away. You can sell unwanted pieces on websites like eBay or Gumtree, and you can list items to give away at sites like Freecycle or Ziilch Australia.

Donating to charity

Charity stores are grateful for acceptable donations. An acceptable donation is an item of quality that they can sell or give to those in need. Please don't donate anything that is damaged, broken or stained.
