Batteries are the number one cause of fires in trucks and at waste and recycling facilities with 30 battery-related fires every day in Australia.

Throwing batteries in the bin can cause them to break or react with other waste and catch fire. These fires are dangerous for workers and harmful to the environment.

Did you know?

That many household items and gadgets contain batteries? If it lights up, beeps, buzzes or vibrates – chances are it contains a battery. Remember batteries should never be disposed of in any household bin. 

Embedded batteries

What are embedded batteries? From toys and toothbrushes to mobile phones and Bluetooth speakers, many of your everyday items contain embedded batteries that should never go in the household bin. Never try and remove an embedded battery yourself –leave that to the professionals and take the whole item to a dedicated battery drop-off point. What should you do?

Never put a battery or battery powered item in a household bin. Take batteries to a dedicated battery drop-off point. Many local councils, supermarkets, hardware stores and electronics stores have collection bins.
