Ku-ring-gai Local Character Study

Council is currently developing a Local Character Study. We would like to hear from you as to what makes the character of Ku-ring-gai and its suburbs.

The study is in response to one of the key aims of the Ku-ring-gai Local Strategic Planning Statement (LSPS) called ‘Planning Priority - K12’.

This planning priority is defined as ‘Managing change and growth in a way that conserves and enhances Ku-ring-gai’s unique visual and landscape character’.

Ku-ring-gai Council has engaged consultants SJB Urban to undertake preliminary analysis. This will help guide development of a Local Character Study for the Ku-ring-gai Council area.

The work will ensure that local character is integrated into local land use planning. Helped by your feedback, local character statements for Ku-ring-gai and its suburbs will be prepared as a result.

Get involved

The first component of character study which is the Ku-ring-gai Local Character Background Study is now being publicly exhibited.

Ku-ring-gai Council and consultants SJB Urban have developed the Ku-ring-gai Local Character Background Study that will ensure that local character is integrated into local land use planning. The background study is primarily focused on the analysis and identification of Ku-ring-gai’s physical characteristics and is intended to provide the basis for further research into local character in the future. It is important to note that this study does not include a detailed examination of the social and cultural characteristics of the LGA which will be the subject of a future study and further community engagement.

This public exhibition seeks to affirm that the community’s view on local character aligns with our work to date. It also seeks to gain community input regarding social and cultural elements to supplement the work already undertaken in preparation of the next phase of the study.
