Ku-ring-gai Local Character Study

Council is currently developing a Local Character Study. We would like to hear from you as to what makes the character of Ku-ring-gai and its suburbs.

The study is in response to one of the key aims of the Ku-ring-gai Local Strategic Planning Statement (LSPS) called ‘Planning Priority - K12’.

This planning priority is defined as ‘Managing change and growth in a way that conserves and enhances Ku-ring-gai’s unique visual and landscape character’.

Ku-ring-gai Council has engaged consultants SJB Urban to undertake preliminary analysis. This will help guide development of a Local Character Study for the Ku-ring-gai Council area.

The work will ensure that local character is integrated into local land use planning. Helped by your feedback, local character statements for Ku-ring-gai and its suburbs will be prepared as a result.

Get involved

Council is seeking input from local residents to better understand the unique characteristics of Ku-ring-gai and its suburbs. The information we collect will help us develop the local character study. We’d like to hear from you as you can give us us local insights that our mapping and technical studies may miss.

Get involved by using our interactive map and find more information on our consultation website.

Have a say

Comments close Friday 18 December.

Please note that this is the first phase of community consultation. The draft study will be reported to Council in December 2020 and if endorsed placed on public exhibition in early 2021. We will also be undertaking a series of community workshops to ensure community members fully understand and can help shape the character study. Based on community input the study will then be finalised and reported to Council for adoption by mid-2021.
