Elizabeth Bay House is a superb example of colonial architecture, famous for its breathtaking, four-storey domed elliptical saloon and geometric staircase. Built in 1839 for Colonial Secretary Alexander Macleay and once considered the finest house in the colony, it was restored and reopened in 1977. The elegant furnishings and magnificent layout present an evocative picture of 19th century life. Macleay was a renowned gentleman scientist with extensive interests in botany, who established a significant library and entomology collection.
We’ll enjoy a guided tour of the house before lunch on the harbour at the CYCA, Rushcutters Bay.
Meet at Marian Street Theatre car park 10 minutes prior to departure, strictly at 9am. Morning tea and lunch at own expense.
