Students supporting Seniors with Technology

Need help with your smartphone, tablet, laptop or other device?

Join us for free one-on-one technology assistance from local high school students.

Whether you'd like help sending emails, making video calls, organising photos, downloading apps, using social media, accessing eBooks, adjusting device settings or learning new digital skills, our local high school student volunteers are here to help in a friendly and supportive environment.

Bring your devices and your questions. No experience is necessary.

How do I register?

You can express your interest by emailing Ku-ring-gai Library to advise us what type of technology your seeking to have support with. Please contact us at libraryevents@krg.nsw.gov.au.

Please note that one-on-one appointments are limited. If we are unable to accommodate your request, you will be placed on a waiting list and contacted about future technology support sessions.

Students can assist with:

1. Smartphones and tablets (iPhone, iPad, Android).

2. Laptops and basic computer use (Windows or Mac).

3. E-readers (iPhone, Kobo, etc.).

4. Learning basic device navigation.

5. Adjusting text size and accessibility settings on devices.

6.Email and messaging including:

  • Attaching photos or documents to emails.
  • Sending and receiving emails.
  • Managing contacts.
  • Learning to use text messaging.

7. Video calling (FaceTime, Whatsapp, Zoom, Google Meet, Teams, etc.).

  • Photos and file organisation including:
  • Understanding microphone and camera settings.
  • Organising photo albums.
  • Sharing photos with family and friends.
  • Deleting unwanted photos.

8. Basic questions about apps and social media.

9. Internet browsing and using online maps and directions.

Student cannot assist with:

  • Repairing hardware or physically disassembling devices.
  • Handling financial transactions.
  • Accessing or managing bank accounts.
  • Creating or changing legal documents.
  • Providing cybersecurity or IT professional services.
  • Recovering lost passwords for accounts.
  • Installing unauthorised software.
  • Making purchases on behalf of patrons.
  • Providing medical, legal or financial advice.
