Ibbitson Park upgrade

About the project
Ibbitson Park is categorised as a local play space. Local playgrounds generally cater for residents within walking distance and are not designed to attract users from much further afield. They are the most common category of playgrounds within Council and usually do not include facilities such as toilets as they are intended for shorter stays.
Our goal
Our goal for the upgrade is to create an attractive, engaging and inclusive community place for everyone to enjoy. It will be a place to meet, play and relax that enhances the local neighbourhood and growing residential community.
Concept plan
Results from the initial community consultation in 2023 guided key elements of the concept plan. This upgrade will be implemented in two stages.
Stage 1 improvements
- New perimeter path connecting to the playground.
- Wolseley Road fencing upgrade with vehicle access and three pedestrian entrances.
- Park amenities including a picnic setting, seating options, waste bins, water bubbler and bike racks.
- Dedicated accessible parking with ramp adjacent to accessible entrance.
- Expanded green spaces and nature play elements.
- All-ages, all-abilities playground.
- Children's bicycle track.
- Diverse recreation options for passive, imaginative and active play.
Stage 2 improvements
- New pathway connecting to park entrance.
- Driveway realignment to expand available green space.
- Strategic tree management (removing unhealthy specimens while preserving mature healthy trees) to create a green corridor between Wolseley Road cul-de-sacs.
- Removal of roadway in front of new townhouse development.
- Additional planted areas.
What's next
Community consultation was undertaken in 2025 to inform the design of the local playground. The consultation resulted in a range of differing opinions on the proposed inclusions for the upgrade. Council is now reviewing the concept plan with the aim of providing a balanced outcome based on the feedback received. The final concept plan will be shared with the community once complete.
