St Ives Shopping Centre and Bus Interchange Project

We successfully gained funding from Transport for NSW (TfNSW) to introduce traffic calming measures in the St Ives Shopping District and Bus Interchange.

The following changes (approved by TfNSW) have recently been implemented:

Cowan Road, St Ives

  • 40 km/h speed limit between Mona Vale Road and Kanoona Avenue;
  • speed cushions along this section;
  • a roundabout at Village Green Parade Intersection;
  • a slow point treatment south of Kanoona Avenue.

Memorial Avenue, St Ives

  • 40 km/h speed limit between Mona Vale Road and Killeaton Street;
  • an entry treatment near Mona Vale Road;
  • a pedestrian refuge island between Village Green Parade and Killeaton Street;
  • speed cushions along this section.

Village Green Parade, St Ives

  • Additional speed hump.

Note: There are 2 pedestrian refuge islands in Cowan Road to assist pedestrians to cross the road safely. Another pedestrian refuge island is proposed to assist pedestrians crossing Memorial Avenue.

Community consultation

We undertook resident consultation with Cowan Road and Memorial Avenue residents and St Ives Shopping Centre management. The consultation took place in July 2019 via letterbox drop or direct mail. The majority of respondents supported the proposed changes. A summary of the comments received on the proposal were included in a report to Ku-ring-gai Traffic Committee on 17 October 2019, where it was recommended that the project by approved by Council.

We considered the committee’s recommendations and approved the project at its meeting of 19 November 2019.
