Schools Tree Day EOI

Next date: Thursday, 25 July 2024 | 09:00 AM to 05:00 PM

tree-day

Register your interest to take part in Ku-ring-gai Council's School Tree Day program. Inspire your students and help them connect with nature.

Council is offering free native tube stock to a limited number of schools for planting on Thursday 25 or Friday 26 July 2024.

On the day, Council will provide tube stock, as well as supervision and tuition to help your school community to plant out, water in and learn about maintaining the plants correctly, for maximum success.

We ask you to choose a weed-free area on your school grounds for the planting activity. You could regenerate a tired looking area or add plantings to an existing natural area. One planting session will be made available per school.

Prior to the event we will provide educational resources for teachers that will introduce the importance of trees. There is also information and activities on the Planet Ark website.

NB: Approval to participate will be granted following a site inspection by our Council staff.

What to bring on the day

Gardening gloves, hats, sunscreen, drink bottles, covered shoes, old clothes that can get a bit of dirt on them!

You may choose to also supply your own stakes, tree guards, labels and temporary fencing to prevent trampling of small plants.

In the event of very wet weather, we will postpone the event to a later date.

How does this help the environment?

Planting trees, shrubs and ground covers educates the entire school community about the importance of greening schools and the many benefits trees provide. It will connect your school community to nature and inspire them to nurture it. Trees help ease the effects of Climate Change and create beautiful, cool spaces for us to enjoy.
