Over $5000 worth of prizes will be awarded to the winning artists for this year’s Sculpture Trail at the Ku-ring-gai Wildflower Garden.

The Sculpture Trail gives artists the opportunity to exhibit works made from recycled materials in the bushland surroundings of the Wildflower Garden at St Ives.

Sculptures can be made from any recyclable materials and will be installed at different points in the Garden to form the Sculpture Trail.

This year’s Sculpture Trail will form part of Ku-ring-gai’s Eco Festival during September and October. The Eco Festival aims to raise community awareness of how to live a sustainable life.

Cash prizes will be awarded to winning entrants at a presentation in early September. Prizes for the Sculpture Trail are funded by Ku-ring-gai’s environmental levy.

The categories and prizes are:

  • Junior Category for individual or group artists 14 years and under – individual prize of $250 and a group prize of a full day excursion at the Wildflower Garden.
  • Youth Category for artists 15 to 24 years – individual prize of $500 and runner up $250.
  • Open Category for artists over 24 years – individual prize of $3000 and runner up $1000

Announcing the art competition today, Mayor Sam Ngai said the Sculpture Trail was a popular event with the public.

“The Trail really gets people’s attention on the impact of waste in an engaging way.”
