Hassall Park upgrades
In 2021 Ku-ring-gai Council endorsed a landscape masterplan for Hassall Park(PDF, 6MB). The masterplan outlines improvement works that will be carried out over the next 10 years.
The vision for the park is to create a high-quality sports field with protected natural bushland. Improvements will accommodate a range recreation opportunities while respecting the area’s heritage and maintaining its status as a district park.
Community involvement so far
The masterplan was created using input from two phases of community consultation. Park users and local insights helped ensure that the masterplan addressed site issues and met user needs.
The consultation revealed that the park is well loved and that opportunities exist for improvements including:
- More seating, tables and covered areas and better access to toilet facilities.
- Upgrades to the club house, children’s playground and park entrances.
- New BBQ facilities, adult exercise equipment and better cricket nets.
- A bike path / jogging track around the park.
Implementation of the masterplan
The masterplan proposes that park upgrades are delivered in three stages as funding becomes available:
Stage 1 complete
Upgrades included:
- New play space.
- Upgraded park entries and paths, including fencing.
- New seating, furniture, signage, shelter and BBQ facilities.
- Fitness station.
- Revised car park area and new spaces.
- Stage 1 tree removals and replacement planting.

Stage 3
- Construction of remaining Stage 1 works and Stage 2 works.

- Stage 3 tree removals and replacement.
Implementation
The project will proceed as per the staging within the masterplan and as funding becomes available. Note that the works have been partly funded by NSW Government's Everyone Can Play Grant Program and Multi-Sport Community Facility Fund.
What's next?
The next stage of proposed masterplan works will include:
- an upgrade of the existing amenity building to provide community access to new unisex accessible and unisex ambulant toilets.
- an upgrade and expansion of the existing cricket nets at the corner of Mawson Street and Mona Vale Road from a three bay to a five bay practice net.

Works are commencing on the upgrade of the cricket net with completion expected by March 2026 (weather depending). Council have also received funding from the Lions Club of Ku ring gai who were successful in their application to government grant programmes to fund a second fitness station at Hassall Park. To minimise impacts on park users, Council intends to construct the fitness station at the same time as the cricket nets.
The location for the second fitness station will be adjacent to the new cricket nets as per the Council endorsed masterplan. Please find more information here on the masterplan landscape masterplan for Hassall Park(PDF, 6MB).
Council has completed tender documentation on the amenities upgrade and the tender process will commence shortly.
Council is currently investigating further funding sources for future masterplan works.
