2023 Ku-ring-gai Sculpture Trail winners announced

Over $5000 worth of prizes have been awarded to the winning artists for this year’s Sculpture Trail at the Ku-ring-gai Wildflower Garden.

The Sculpture Trail gives artists the opportunity to exhibit works made from recycled materials in the bushland surroundings of the Wildflower Garden at St Ives.

Over 30 sculptures made from recyclable materials have been installed at different points in the Garden to form the Sculpture Trail.

This year’s Sculpture Trail is part of Ku-ring-gai’s Eco Festival during September and October. The Eco Festival aims to raise community awareness of how to live a sustainable life.

Cash prizes were awarded to winning entrants at a presentation last Friday, with the Trail officially opening to the public last weekend. Prizes for the Sculpture Trail are funded by Ku-ring-gai’s environmental levy.

The categories and prizes are:

• Junior Category for individual or group artists 12 years and under – the individual prize of $500 was awarded to Jingyan Chen and the group prize of a full day excursion at the Wildflower Garden awarded to Knox Grammar Preparatory School – Year 4
  
  
• Youth Category for artists 13 to 18 years – the individual prize of $1000 was awarded to Adam Zreika and the runner up prize of $500 was awarded to Jade Dunne
  
  
• Open Category for artists over 18 years – the individual prize of $2500 was awarded to Simon de Lorm and the runner up prize of $1000 to Peter Masia.

Mayor Jeff Pettett who helped judge the entries said the Sculpture Trail had become a popular event with residents.

“The Trail really heightens people’s awareness of the impact of waste on the environment. This year’s entries have been ingenious in their use of recycled waste.”

The Sculpture Trail is open at the Wildflower Garden until 2 October.
