Ecological communities

An ecological community may be listed as vulnerable, endangered or critically endangered under the NSW Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016 depending on the level of threat and risk of its collapse. An ecological community is listed as critically endangered if the Threatened Species Scientific Committee (TSSC) determines it is facing an extremely high risk of extinction in Australia in the immediate future.

Threats to these communities have been the result of clearing, fragmentation and pressures from the surrounding environment, such as weeds, nutrient run off and sedimentation.

There are four endangered ecological communities and two critically endangered, in Ku-ring-gai that we strive to preserve for their unique character and habitat. These areas are characterised by a set of environmental conditions which influences the presence of flora and fauna species, including landforms, soil types and climate.
