Lorraine Taylor Reserve playground update

About the project

Council is upgrading the playground at Lorraine Taylor Reserve, previously known as Athena Avenue Reserve. This playspace is categorised as a local playground. Local playgrounds generally cater for residents within walking distance and are not designed to attract users from much further afield. They are the most common category of playgrounds within the Council and usually do not include facilities such as toilets as they are intended for shorter stays.

Our goal

Community consultation was undertaken to inform the design of the local playground in mid 2022. This consultation resulted in a variety of differing opinions on what should be included in the upgrade. Council's aim is to deliver an inclusive play space design based on this feedback.

The concept design for this local park includes:

  • play equipment catering for a range of age groups and abilities;
  • an accessible circuit path;
  • rubber/ mulch softfall;
  • nature-based play features;
  • associated landscaping works;
  • formal and informal seating options;
  • accessible drinking fountain and bin.

What's next

Council is progressing with the detailed design of the playground based on the concept plan. Please note the final plan may undergo some changes as the project continues to progress through the detailed design and construction process.

Council is hoping to begin construction in mid 2024, subject to a satisfactory outcome of Council's mandatory tendering process.
